Artist Spotlight - Serena Ryder

Lately I’ve been receiving emails in regards to reviewing up-and-coming artists, and I’ve decided to make this somewhat of a regular occurrence on the site. So artists, record labels, fans, whoever - email me and we’ll make it happen.

Let me start off the official Artist Spotlight series with Serena Ryder, a folk signer from Toronto who has recently been signed to Atlantic Records. She sounds a lot like early 90s folk meets all the present day indie girls. Perfect easy listening for this time of year, with a foot of snow outside and a heavy mug of hot chocolate. Upon first listen she sounded a little too Melissa Etheridgey for me, but once I got through all the tracks, I’ve found she’s got a lot of good songs and a unique style. Definitely listen to “Sisters of Mercy” and “Told You In A Whispered Song”.
